About this location

Near Ballarat, Creswick State Forest in Western Victoria covers about 956 hectares of public land, free to hunt for licensed hunters under the state's public land hunting rules and mapped on the GMA More to Explore tool. A Game Licence allows stalking of sambar, fallow, red and hog deer, with hog deer taken in April under tag, ducks hunted in season with a Waterfowl Identification Test pass, and a separate quail season. Foxes, rabbits, hares, feral pigs and feral goats can be taken all year. Part of the forest is shared with a grazing licence, so hunters should check the More to Explore map for current boundaries and closures before travelling.

Access and requirements

A current Victorian Game Licence with the right endorsements, plus your firearms licence.
Deer hunting is permitted, by stalking, with gundogs and deer hunting dogs allowed.
Hog deer in the April season only, with tags and compulsory checking.
Duck in the declared season only, with a Waterfowl Identification Test, non-toxic shot and gundogs limited to flushing and retrieval.
Stubble quail in the declared season only.
Declared pest animals (rabbits, foxes, pigs and goats) may be taken all year.
Parts of this area carry a grazing licence. Respect stock, gates and any licensee signage; some sections can only be hunted with the licensee's permission, so check the More to Explore map zones carefully.
